Introduction

The owners of this two-story craftsman style home wanted to adapt the kitchen, dining, and family rooms to a more contemporary lifestyle. The family room and dining room were switched and the kitchen and new dining room were then opened up to one another by removing the wall between them. A small storage/mud room was removed between the kitchen and the back door and that door was then moved and widened to create a better connection between the kitchen/dining area and the back yard. An island with seating was also added in the kitchen to provide an informal dining option and to allow for larger social gathers in the kitchen/dining area.
