Introduction

A “mid-century modern” that had lost some of the clarity of its original form over time was restored and updated inside and out. A large expanse of windows at the front of the house was allowed once again to bring the outside in through the removal of the wall between the kitchen and dining room and the removal of heavy shades; and the removal of existing wood paneling brightened the interior spaces. What had been a cramped space between the house and the back fence was opened up to create a generous and private outdoor sitting area and plantings were thinned or replaced to let the clean lines of the exterior read more clearly. Outdated fixtures and cabinets were replaced with contemporary ones that respect the vintage of the house.
